TwiningsTITLE OF SHOW: TwiningsLENGTH OF SHOW: 45-60-MINUTES
INTERMISSION 15-minutes
THEME [one sentence description]: All peoples around the world have common feelings, ideas, ideals and values.

CONTENT [brief description: Humorous stories and high-jinks and perky dance from developing and Third World countries, such as Guatemala, Senegal, Thailand, India and from such peoples as the Aboriginals of Australia.

GOAL [the purpose of this show]: To witness that all peoples around the world have similar feelings, values and characters at which we can laugh, ideas that make us stop and think and a diversity of expressions to celebrate.

POINT OF VIEW OF ARTISTS: Both Bob and Dana feel strongly that by exposing themselves and audiences to the commitments and values of other societies, we will be better able to understand our own, and that we will be more compassionate towards those of others in order to break down prejudice and confront ignorance, while enriching our lives.

PRESENTATION [skills used to present show]: The most notable feature of TWININGS is the costuming. Dressed as two Shaman, the healer-story-teller-wise men of tribes around the world, Bob and Dana are covered with fringes, crocheted panels, headdresses, arm and leg bands, beading, jewelry from the Bedouin, from the Gold Coast of Africa, from Nigeria, patterned body suits with tattoo-designs from the pottery of the Navajo, the Zuni, the Aboriginal. The costumes weigh in at 30 lbs. a piece, including layers of capes in silks from India, Thailand and China. The set is brightly painted in reds and browns with designs abstracted from the folk costumes of peoples who have immigrated to Canada from all over the world. Music comes from the countries of the actual stories themselves: India, Africa, Guatemala and some was specially composed by John Thompson of the Banff Fine Arts Centre for the reconstruction of dances that are over 10,000 years old. Movement is an integral part of the characterizations as well as the individual, folk-dances.

TARGET AUDIENCE: Usually the whole family enjoys this show, age 4/5 and up. Multi-cultural groups, especially from developing countries and seniors greatly enjoy the show.
