Mr. Greenwood and Mr. Luebke have travelled to Croatia seven times since 1991, spending from 10 days to three-and-a-half weeks at a time in the country. They were in the country when it declared independence and when war was declared by Serbia against Slovenia and Croatia. They have since performed in bomb shelters, schools, hospitals, rural and urban centres, sea-side resort areas, in theatres, on television and have sought to bring about a negotiated end of the war by contacting world leaders, starting projects among nations to aid the refugees and the wounded. Having lived with the people, performed at the front lines in southern and northern Croatia, having been 50 meters from the shooting at one point during their second trip to the country, both artists are well aware of the situations there. They have been honoured by the cities of Zagreb, Rijeka, Sibenik, Primosten and Osijek. In fact, in Primosten, the Mayor gave them the key to the city, an honour which has been given only four times since the 13th-Century and, in 1995, the Zupanija of Sibenik has given them Honorary Citizenship.

Mr. Greenwood and Mr. Luebke as Sun.Ergos were the first Canadian performing arts company to be invited to the AKKO FESTIVAL in 1989. They did two of their shows, TWININGS and LEGENDS, STORIES FROM THE BUFFALO HUNTERS, and they also taught workshops in acting and dance. Performing for both Arabs and Israelis, they travelled from Acre to the kibbutzim, Malkia, Yiftach and Har VaGai in the Finger of Galilee, into the Golan Heights, to Haifa, Tel Aviv and Jerusalem’s famous Israel Museum. They worked closely with festival directors and the Canadian Embassy to reach as many people as possible in all kinds of situations and from all kinds of backgrounds, cultures and heritages. They also performed their controversial productions of HIBAKUSHA TWILIGHT and DIALOGUES FOR A DEAD DAY at the prestigeous, experimental Tsvata Theatre. Visiting the Old City in Jerusalem, they were guests of an Armenian ceramist who took them on a personal tour of the Armenian Sector, an Arab businessman who took them to the Dome of the Rock, by an Israeli who took them to Yad Vasham and the Jewish Quarter.
